In 2016, Taylor was fixing up her Tribeca penthouses when she found the perfect place to rent in New York City’s lovely West Village. This cute carriage house that has been turned into a house on Cornelia Street won her heart. Even though it cost $39,500 (£31k) a month, the historic building that was 21 feet wide, had double-height ceilings, beautiful hardwood floors, three cozy fireplaces, and stunning views of the city was well worth it. Taylor loved this house so much that it inspired the song “Cornelia Street,” which is on her 2019 record Lover.
This 5,500-square-foot building was built in 1870 and has four bedrooms and seven baths. Even though it was just redone, the mix of old and new features works well together. The house has modern features like a beautiful chef’s kitchen, beautiful Lalique light fixtures, and floor-to-ceiling glass windows with an industrial look that lets in lots of natural light. When it gets dark, an elaborate Murano chandelier shines brightly in the dining room, making it look beautiful.
The renovated carriage house was bought by the high-end Italian furniture company Zanotta in 2019 for $11.5 million (£9m). The house was creatively turned into a live gallery of the company’s best works that can only be seen by arrangement. People who went on this special VIP shopping event got to know the brand’s values and even had the chance to stay the night in this historic home. But the house was just recently put on the market in late May 2023, with a price just below $18 million (£14m). It is once again for rent at a very high price of $45,000 (£35k) per month.
Because of its long history, this old building has been fixed up many times over the years. The recent addition of the pool level is one example. It has high ceilings (27 feet) and a smooth basalt stone floor. Inside, there is a 30-foot-long diving pool next to a cozy lounge room with two doors that lead to a patio outside. It looks even better with a beautiful rooftop patio framed by a metal gable structure. After Taylor Swift broke up with English star Joe Alwyn, this street became a place where her fans would come to pray. It got so popular on Instagram that people started calling it “Cornelia Street aka Taylor Swift Ave.”
