Dwayne Johnson surprised fans after his ceremonious return to WWE. While fans thought that it was a one-off appearance on the Day 1 episode of WWE Raw, The Brahma Bull hinted that he was here to stay with a very subtle statement. Johnson hinted that he might potentially face off against WWE’s current Undisputed Champion and his cousin, Roman Reigns.
However, this does give rise to another question. Johnson has never performed at a PLE organized in Saudi Arabia. Now, it feels like things might change.
Dwayne Johnson might go after the big bucks
One thing that fans should note is that the match between Johnson and Reigns is a speculated one. It is still in the rumor phase and there has been no build-up for the showdown yet. Therefore a showdown could happen between the two after the events of WrestleMania 40. As Dave Meltzer stated in his podcast, Johnson does have a particular interest in main-eventing WrestleMania. However, the financial aspect might change his perspective.
As Meltzer stated, Johnson might try to compare the financial gains that he could get from main eventing at WrestleMania to that of Crown Jewel or any Premium Live Event that might be held in Saudi Arabia this year.
As fans are aware, WWE has signed a long-term contract with the Middle Eastern country under which the promotion gets to bring their shows to Saudi Arabia. Apart from that, it is reported that the stars get paid a hefty sum for working at a PLE held in Saudi Arabia.
However, Johnson might not only analyze the financial gains from working at a PLE held in Saudi Arabia. There is one more factor that might open doors for him to perform there.
Another reason why Dwayne Johnson might show up in Saudi Arabia
Apart from being a part of WWE, Dwayne Johnson also happens to be a part of Hollywood. The star is considered someone who represents the industry on many levels. Hence, if the industry decides on a particular thing, he is expected to follow suit, considering that it might be in everyone’s best interest. Hollywood distanced itself from Saudi Arabia in 2018 following the assassination of columnist Jamal Khashoggi, with actors following suit. A popular example is from 2018 when another WWE and Hollywood star John Cena decided not to perform at the 2018 Crown Jewel.
However, it has been years since the incident happened, and the industry might have decided to put it all behind them, as evidenced by Cena returning to Saudi Arabia for last year’s Crown Jewel. Since the industry seems to have warmed up to the country once again, chances are Johnson won’t be hesitant to perform in Saudi Arabia. However, fans are not sure yet how long Dwayne Johnson is going to stay at the company.
