Weezy received the Global Impact Award at the Recording Academy’s Black Music Collective event in Los Angeles before to Sunday’s performance. Drake and Nicki Minaj, who both paid homage to the Young Money founder, were among those confirmed to have attended the joyous event.
“I know I probably get annoying with saying how much you mean to me and my family, but I think I speak for everybody when I say that without your natural gift to be yourself, our careers, our cadences, our melodies, maybe our face tats or our outfits or our decisions in general would not have been the same,” Drake said, giving Weezy the award.
Weezy reflected on his early years in New Orleans and said he was “honored” to be shown affection by his fellow artists as he took the stage to accept this award.
